CF22 - Mansilla de las Mulas - León - 18,4 km
Itinerary
You will leave Mansilla de las Mulas by the famous medieval bridge over the river Esla, which leads to the N-601. Less than 1 km away, you will leave the national road turning to the right and continue walking on a path parallel to the road. On the other side of the road, and soon after this detour, you will get to the road that leads to Mansilla la Mayor and to Monasterio de Sandoval.
1 km after, you will pass by a hill where the ruins of Lancia are located. Once you get to Villamoros de Mansilla, you will cross the road tuning left, going through a worker’s house and coming back to the road, crossing it to the right. Then, you will continue on a path quite similar to the one you followed from Mansilla. After 2 km, you will cross the historical bridge over the river Porma.
Having crossed the bridge, you will see the old Pilgrims’ Hospital on the left, on the border of the N-601, which you will have to follow to then cross Villarente Bridge. A couple km ahead, (on the km 316,5) you will leave the road turning to the right and taking a path that crosses Porma Channel. Leaving a fountain and a washing place on one side, you will go up Arcajuela hill, where you will follow another path to reach, 1 km after, Valdelafuente.
From here, and leaving the gas station on the left side, you will get to the N-601 again (on the km 321), leading to Alto del Portillo, where you will be able to see León for the first time.
Going down the old road towards Puente Castro Borough and crossing the river Torío to enter the city, you will leave behind the Santa Isabel Mental Hospital.
You will arrive at León through the traditional Santa Ana Borough, from where you can follow the itinerary towards the Cathedral via Calle Barahona and Puerta Moneda, Plaza del Mercado, Calle de la Rúa, Plaza de San Marcelo and Calle Ancha, which leads to Plaza de la Regla (also known as Plaza de la Catedral). Then, keep going through Calle del Cid and you will get to San Isidoro Basilica, which is not far from there.
