CF27 - Molinaseca - Villafranca del Bierzo - 30,5 km

Itinerary

Following Calle Real, you will get to the LE-142 and will keep going 4,2 km before turning right and taking a path that goes on surrounded by vegetation. Soon after this, you will return to the road and cross it after 3,5 km, taking a stony path which goes down to the village called Campo. Leaving this place, the path goes through a dumping site next to Boeza riverbank.

Crossing the Escaril Bridge over Moriscal Stream, you will get to Puente de Boeza Borough. From here and crossing the Mascarón Bridge over the river Boeza, you will enter Ponferrada town centre, and following the streets of Hospital, Salinas, Plaza del Temple and Comendador, you will be led to “Nuestra Señora de la Encina” Basilica.

The Way goes on Mateo Garza Street towards the bridge over the river Sil. After crossing it, you will continue on the road to Madrid. Some metres ahead, you will turn right on Paseo Huerta del Sacramento, which crosses the railroad line to get to the tips of Compostilla thermal power plant, leaving it behind on the left.

Next, you will cross Bajo Bierzo Canal and keep going on Compostilla, leaving the church on the left. Once you get to Collumbrianos, you will pass to the road to Villablino (C-631) and follow it a couple metres to then leave it turning to the left on Calle de las Eras (also called Camino Real).

Via a tunnel, under the railroad line, you will soon arrive to the road of Vega de Espinareda and, some km after this, to Fuentes Nuevas.

You will go through the village via Calle Real and continue surrounded by fruitful fields to Camponaraya, 1 km away. Once in Camponaraya, you will keep walking on the road until you leave the village, where you will take on a path to the left, in front of a wine cooperative. You will follow this path between vineyards and then descending to Cimadevila, from where you will keep going to Cacabelos through Calle de los Peregrinos.

You will leave Cacabelos crossing the bridge over the river Cúa and via the N-VI; on the right you will see the beautiful chapel of “Nuestra Señora de las Angustias”. After 2 km, you will get to Pieros, leaving the hill with the Castrum Bergidum ruins on the right.

On the km 406,8, you will leave the road turning to the right and will take a path that, after crossing Valtuilles stream, it becomes narrower because of the vegetation, to end on a wider trail known as Camino de la Virgen, which comes from Valtuille de Arriba.

From here, after 2 km walking, you will arrive at Santiago’s Church, on the entrance of Villafranca del Bierzo.
