CN12 - Güemes - Santander - 14 Km

Itinerary

From Güemes, the Santander Bay will make you choose an option to continue. You can either go walking around the bay, or you can cross it on a boat. If you decide to take the boat on Somo pier, the itinerary is the following.

From the hostel you will continue towards Galizano, following the local road CA-443, which will lead you to Gargollo, Río Negro and Linderrio and will leave you, after 3,6 km, on the intersection with the CA-141. Here, you will turn left and continue on it for 400 m, turning right after crossing the river Herrera and getting into the interior part of the CA-440, heading towards the town centre. On your right, you will leave the Health Centre and on the left, Nuestra Señora de Galizano Church. Keep going on this road for 300 m and once you get to a pronounced curve, turn left and go straight on to La Pedrosa Borough, turning right to the bicycle lane, which will get you to the CA-141, where you will find a rest area with a fountain.

From Galizano Church you will take the CA-440 and some metres after, next to a pronounced curve, you will have to take the road to the left, which leads to a bicycle lane that goes parallel to the CA-441 towards Somo. Following the signs to Latas, you will get to Rumor intersection after 4 km. On the roundabout, you will leave the bicycle lane turning right to the CA-440 road, heading towards Langre; 500 m after, you will turn left again and will get to Santa María de Latas Sanctuary.

Leaving the Sanctuary, you will see an intersection and will go straight on, leaving the cemetery on your left; later on, you will pass by the camping facilities, continuing on a byroad that goes across Loredo, turning left on a fork next to a house. From here, the way gets narrower and then descends towards the houses in Somo, getting to another fork, where you will turn left, entering the town centre.

Somo is a town with a huge beach that continues from Loredo. This beach gets almost to the centre of Santander Bay. The pier is on the other end of the town, where the bridge over Cubas estuary starts, on the mouth of river Miera. To get to Santander you will get on a motorboat line that connects the capital and the towns of Pedreña and Somo.

In 20 min you will get to Santander Pier. Once there, you will turn left to a pedestrian crossing  and will cross to Pereda Gardens, from where you will turn left and will continue on Paseo de Pereda and Calvo Sotelo Avenue towards Correos building (Post office) and the Cathedral, which you will see on your left. Continue on Calvo Sotelo to arrive at Plaza del Ayuntamiento (on your right); to your left, you will see Calle Ruamayor, where Santos Mártires Hostel is located.
