CF02 - Roncesvalles - Zubiri - 22 km
Itinerary
Leaving Roncesvalles, you will have to descend to Burguete by the C-135. In this village, pilgrims have two options:
a) Turning left after passing by the church. You will descend to an old bridge over the River Urrobi and, after crossing it, you will continue by a soil path that goes through a livestock area, to finally arrive at Espinal.
b) Going straight on the road. Soon after the detour to Garralda and after crossing a second bridge over River Urrobi, you will have to turn right and take the way to Espinal, avoiding, this way, the curve on the road.
When you arrive at Espinal, after passing by the village fountain, you will follow a path on the left of the road. Then, you will ascend to a conifer plantation, where you will have to turn right to reach the peak, full of hazelnut trees, beeches and blackberry bushes. After this, you will start the descent back to the road. Turning left after passing by the gravestone of the Roncesvalles Virgin, the path descends on the way to Viscarret, making contact again with the road twice.
After passing by the graveyard, the path descends parallel to the road, on its left. You will have to follow the road and soon leave it again when you turn right on the way to Linzoáin. Leaving this village, you will initiate a pronounced climb in the midst of pines, beeches and oaks, to “Alto Erro”. Before crossing the road again, you can look at the stones known as “Pasos de Roldán” (Steps of Roldán). Going back on the path, you will pass by “Venta del Puerto”, now a cowshed. From there, you will descend down to Zubiri.
